Title: “Weegee Original Photographs 1940’s Men in uniform”
Size: (not specified)
Unsold (starting bid: $99.00)
From the listing: ““in great condition for its age and rarity ..weegee was one of a few who shot with a black back round .” – Whatever that means.

photoshoot2012 has been listing on eBay photographs that claim to be “Weegee Original Photographs.”
They even have a stamp on the backs… Wait a minute, let’s look closely at the backs… Below are screen shots of two different eBay listings, of two pairs of photos, and yet the backs are identical, the same image file was used… something smells fishy…

The “Weegee Original Photographs 1940’s Men in uniform” pair of photos is still for sale. The price has dropped precipitously, and then rebounded a bit… something still smells fishy…

It’s often difficult to extract accurate information from an eBay listing, (especially listings as inarticulate and confusing as these), nevertheless, based on very little information and a few JPEGs, I think these are definitely not photos made by Weegee…

To be continued…

One of the purposes of this little blog was for it to be something like an electronic filing cabinet. These posts should be filed under: auctions, on-line, 2013…

Sold as: “RARE 1940’s Original Photo VIRGINIA MAYO Portrait by WEEGEE”

Funny thing is, the caption on the back of the photo doesn’t say that Weegee made the photo. In the (great) caption there is a quote from Weegee, (“on account of them curves”) as an award presenter, not as the photographer. (That’s a curve or perhaps even a knuckleball…)
(There are photos of Weegee and Mayo, each holding a small movie camera, on the same set.)
Our opinion: the photo was not made by Weegee.
