Hi, I had a look at the ICP eMuseum to see prints of this image with negative damage in the upper left corner. I compared the two that I found there (Accession Numbers 115.1982 and 264.1996) to this auction lot, and found the auction lot print to be significantly cropped – to the degree that the negative damage (UL) is completely cropped out. Hmmm… but no I am wrong. Even though a good deal is cropped from the top, the damage in negative used to make the ICP prints would indeed be seen (as not much is cropped from the left). I'm tempted to say there might be two different negatives – the lighting reads differently enough… but then again different papers and printers/printings could account for those differences. Hmmm. I dunno. I sure am enjoying your Weegee blog.
