Tenement Fire On Lower East Side Drives 50 Families Into Cold
“Down in one of New York’s poorest districts, half a hundred families are crowded into an old house at 90 Stanton St. Fire started in an adjacent tenement, was sucked through the air shafts by the high wind, almost smothering all of those who lived there. Here is a rescue.”

“Girl Saves Child from Fire
Rushes Through Flames and Seizes Imperiled Youngster
Jeanette Seidler, 18 yers old, of 90 Stanton St., saved a girl’s life by dashing thorough flames that hemmed in Annie Yarwitz, 7 in a washroom in the rear of the third floor of that tenement house yesterday. The fire was caused by Tarvel Tauber, painter, dropping a lighted candle in a pot of paint when he was painting… The fire routed thirty families, caused a panic among the tenants and did damage estimated at $500.”
