Entirely Irrelevant… “Here’s one for the museums!”
“Hurrell chose a stack of boogie-woogie records and turned the photograph to top volume. Then, singing, he rushed around. He’d poke a light; rush back to look at the camera; dance around to cover a bit of leg and reveal a bit of bosom; charge back to the camera; all the time uttering wild cries; “That’s it,” “A cup of coffee, daddy,” “Too much,” “Aaaaaaah, that’s what the doctor ordered.” His assistant thew a film in the camera – Hurrell drew back for a cool, last look – yelled “Here’s one for the museums,” and pressed the shutter bulb. The o”one for the museums” is right below. – Ralph Steiner”

Off Duty Cop Does Duty, Kills Gunman Who Tries Stickup
The boys were playing a little pool and cards in the Spring Arrow Social and Athletic Club, 344 Broome St., near the Bowery last night. Patrolman Eligio Sarro, off duty, went in for a pack of cigarets. Four men entered. “This is a stick-up,” the leader muttered. Sarro was a little slow getting his hands out of his overcoat pockets. “Get ’em up,” ordered the leader, Sarro did. One hand held a gun. When he got through firing, the leader was dead.
The usual curious crowd gathered after the gunman, fatally wounded, staggered from the entrance. He was about 22, dark and chunky. Police said he was Andrew Izzo with a record of six arrests.
Patrolman Sarro smokes a cigaret a few minutes after he dropped the gunman. He’s assigned to the Empire Blvd. precinct in Brooklyn. He lives only a few doors from the club.

No Pedestrians Are Killed…
Looking into the Hudson at 29th St. Thursday. No people were killed…
It was too cold for this, 17 degrees and very, very windy…
The piers are no longer present… below a small heliport; across the street from something like a sanitation parking/working area… My right hand is frozen… He still grasps a camera…

Ruffled Raffles is a photo of The (chic?) Ramones in a window across the street from the old Police Headquarters… Ruffled Raffles is waiting 1.5 hours at 10:30 PM at MoMA to see (or not see) The Clock… Ruffled Raffles is not the amazing art of A.Zittel…

Rationing of gasoline via permanent coupons started yesterday. In the photo, cars lined up in front of stations without gas. Sam Fromen, junkman, and his faithful steed had laugh on autoists at this Seventh Ave. station. Later in the day, after stations got gas, motorists stayed away in droves. Afraid of disappointment, perhaps. PM Photo by Weegee

Irrational. No rationing on this Seventh Ave. block. The gulf between the past and the present is thicker than bricks… WD Photo by Ceegee
———————————————————————————————————-
We let our fingers do the walking to find this location… According to the 1940 Manhattan telephone book (courtesy of NYPL), there were two Bricks Service Stations on 7th Ave. The one at 161 7th Ave. is behind the Gulf gas station in Weegee’s photo. A local resident on a bike helped us identify the “art deco” building in the background…
