Hats Off!“
Plays 14 Hours of Records!…
“‘Select-O-Matic’ has capacity for 100 records, can play up to 14 hours without stop. Records are played vertically.”
“Another step toward uninterrupted playing of photograph records over a long period has been taken… This machine holds up to 100 records and can play up to 14 hours with out a stop… The machine is actually a juke box with a well-devolped brain…”
“I’m sending them to my Congressman.”
Weegee Daily… April 2, 1941… Auto Crash…

PM Daily, April 2, 1941
“Auto Crash: These two women were in a cab which was in collision with two other cars at Grand and Lafayette Streets last night. Their expressions tell the whole story. Our photographer arrived just before the women were removed to Beekman Street Hospital.

Auto: Cab driving East on Grand and Lafayette streets last evening… I could be wrong, but I think this photo was another of my discoveries. It was “unknown” until I found it in an old newspaper… Beekman Street Hospital (Founded in 1905; 117 Beekman Street, Manhattan)… Taxis were dangerous 70 years ago, and they still drive dangerously today…

66 Years Ago Today… “Will Homer’s Burial Today Lure Langley?”

PM Daily, April 1, 1947
“Will Homer’s Burial Today Lure Langley?
They will bury 65-year-old Homer Collyer today in a casket with bronze trimmings at the Cypress Hill Cemetery… And the big question is whether Homer’s brother, the missing Hermit from 2078 Fifth Avenue, will turn up at the service…
At 8:3 a.m. they started to move the dust-encrusted books. By 3 p.m. they had removed 2,987 volumes, most of them said to be of little value, medical books from the senior Collyer’s library – he was a well-known gynecologist – and books of law and engineering. Homer was an admiralty lawyer, Langley an engineer…
A collector’s item was a New York Telephone Directory for 1908…
… At least one legend was true: Langley did have a Ford car in the house…
One of several pianos was carried out. It was a Steinway…”

Weegee Museum of Photography Opening Soon…

We’re in the process of releasing an official press release… Until then, we wanted to let a select few (that’s you) know, that we are creating an unofficial Weegee Museum of Photography.
We haven’t decided on an unofficial name yet. It must form a pleasant acronym and unfortunately most of the good acronyms are taken, these are the working names: WHAM (Weegee House of American Museum, no wait, that’s a little awkward), or WHY (Weegee House of Yesterday), or HUMP WHIP (House of Usher (Fellig’s) Museum of Photography and Weegee’s Home and International Museum of Photography), etc…

We have purchased 5 Centre Market Place. (and 5 Center Market Place) and will begin deconstruction before June 12, 2013…
We will refurbish the original rifle range in the basement, near the cafe, install a police teletype machine, provide free mandatory cigars, etc. etc…

Wee (WHAM, WHY, or HUMP WHIP, etc.) will be open 24 hours a day, and wee will keep Weegee’s hours, we’ll be open all night… (There will be no registrar dept., and if anyone has ever unnecessarily dismantled imaging equipment, and acted unprofessionally and reprehensibly, they will not be allowed to enter.) And of course the price of admission will be $17…
